Shining God’s Light

At Good Shepherd, we believe that faith comes alive through service. As a community of faith, we’re committed to serving God and caring for others — wherever and whenever we're needed. We believe being the church means showing up with love, compassion, and practical support right where people are.

We are committed to working with community partners to ensure the needs of our community are met.

Ways to Serve: If you are looking for ways you might serve or grow as a disciple with the Good Shepherd family, we invite you to fill out our "Committing to Presence and Service" form. We look forward to serving alongside you!

Ways to serve

Feeding Ministries

Each week, we collect non-perishable food items for ACTS Food Pantry.  Items can be left anytime in the baskets located in the Gathering Space.

Several times a year, we serve meals at the Hilda Barg and Ferlazzo Centers, offering nourishment and kindness to our neighbors.

More Ways to Make a Difference

Throughout the year, there are plenty of ways to get involved, including:

  • Assembling UMCOR Relief Kits

  • Collecting school supplies

  • Providing gifts through the Angel Tree

Those in need of assistance

Good Shepherd no longer provides direct assistance to individuals in the community. In order to be good stewards of our resources, we partner with other community groups for food, rental, and utility services. We encourage you to call 211 to be connected with the most current list of local resources.

Outreach that Connects
At Good Shepherd, outreach is all about building meaningful relationships with our neighbors, local organizations, and anyone needing a helping hand. We love creating spaces where individuals and families can connect, kids can grow, and the whole community can feel supported and encouraged.
Annual Outreach Events
Parents' Day/Night Out
Need a break? We've got you! Throughout the year, we offer Parents' Day or Night Out events that are more than just movies and playtime — they’re like mini-VBS experiences. Each one has a fun theme, and kids rotate through stations filled with service projects, Bible stories, games, crafts, and movement — all centered around experiencing God's love.
Summer Camps
Our Summer Art Camp and Basketball Camp are highlights for elementary-age kids! Through painting, drawing, and teamwork on the court, children build friendships and grow in God’s love in a fun, creative environment.
Live Nativity
Step into the story of Christmas at our annual indoor Live Nativity! With live animals, a Bethlehem village full of crafts and treats, and a chance to reflect on the birth of Christ, it’s a special experience for the whole family.
Volunteer
Looking for a way to serve, connect and grow in faith?

Community Partners

Good Shepherd UMC is proud to be an official school partner with Neabsco Elementary. Each month, we collect specific items requested by the school to support students and staff — from school supplies to snacks and everything in between.

We work with Dale Elementary, providing Weekend Snack Packs for students who could use a little extra support. Our own children help pack these bags with care — usually enough for about 30 students at a time.

We’re active partners with the Hilda Barg Homeless Prevention Center and Ferlazzo Emergency Shelter, where we serve meals several times a year to individuals and families in crisis. This ministry is part of our ongoing work with the Cooperative Council of Ministries — a network of local churches working together to care for the community through coordinated outreach and support.
